Dr. Mohamed Mansour, Dean of the Islamic University of Latin America – Mexico and President of the Foundation for Development and Cultural and Educational Cooperation in Latin America, participated in the First Consultative Meeting of Islamic University Leaders.
The meeting brought together more than 100 university presidents and academic officials representing over 70 universities from 43 countries.
The university’s participation reflected its commitment to strengthening its presence in international academic forums, expanding cooperation with higher education institutions across the Islamic world, and introducing its educational and intercultural mission in Latin America.
The meeting witnessed distinguished academic representation from leading institutions of the Islamic world, foremost among them Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, with its longstanding scholarly heritage and global message of moderation and balance.
The Association of Islamic Universities also played a prominent role in coordinating and leading the meeting, facilitating dialogue, and creating opportunities for cooperation among the participating universities and academic institutions.
Dr. Mohamed Mansour’s Address at the Opening Session
Dr. Mohamed Mansour delivered an address during the opening session in which he highlighted the situation of Muslim communities in Latin America and the educational and institutional challenges they face.
He stressed the importance of directing greater academic attention toward the region and establishing sustainable channels of cooperation between Latin American institutions and universities across the Islamic world.
Dr. Mansour also emphasized the importance of promoting Al-Azhar’s scholarly approach in Latin America. He noted that this approach is distinguished by moderation, balance, and its ability to combine loyalty to the authentic Islamic intellectual tradition with a sound understanding of contemporary realities.
He further explained that Al-Azhar’s enlightened teachings have contributed throughout history to spreading knowledge, promoting coexistence, confronting extremism, and presenting a balanced civilizational model capable of engaging constructively with different cultures and societies.
New Prospects for Academic Cooperation
The meeting provided an important opportunity to introduce the mission of the Islamic University of Latin America and its role in building educational, scholarly, and cultural bridges between Latin America and the Islamic world.
The event also included a series of academic meetings and discussions that opened new prospects for cooperation and explored the signing of academic and scientific agreements.
Potential areas of collaboration included education, joint research, exchange of expertise, student and faculty mobility, and the development of academic programs and curricula.
These efforts aim to build a sustainable international academic network, improve institutional capacity, exchange successful educational experiences, and address the shared challenges facing higher education institutions.
